Friday, May 21st, 2010

Valerie HarperValerie Harper has done it again! She received the well-deserved Tony Nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Play for her lead role as Tallulah Bankhead. Bankhead was known for her “Hollywood bad girl” reputation and the story of Looped depicts one evening when Tallulah Bankhead needed to re-record one line of dialogue for her final film. Her role as Tallulah Bankhead is not the only role Valerie Harper has totally dominated, as she is probably best known for her character Rhoda in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”. If Looped returns to Broadway, let’s hope that Valerie Harper joins the cast once again to complete one amazing production! Looped on Broadway provides a raw glimpse into the frictions and creative miasma that enfolds giant personalities like Bankhead’s, and the best part is, it’s great fun! Valerie Harper is the perfect pick to play the larger-than-life actress. The former “Rhoda” star positively buzzes with sarcasm and sass, with her red hair and come hither eyes. Join Tallulah/Harper as she stumbles, fumbles, rants and tumbles her way through the loop session, and marvel at how she achieved all the things she did. The play climaxes with a classic confrontation between the artist – Bankhead – and the poor film editor, Danny Miller, as the two go head to head in a fight to the artistic death. Tallulah Bankhead said many things, and one of them was this: “If you really want to help the American theater, don’t be an actress, dahling. Be an audience.” Well, with Looped Broadway tickets you can be in the audience and relive the last crazed studio session of a true legend. And don’t forget to check out out Tallulah Bankhead quotes page for more of those zappers from the mouth of the original Hollywood wild woman!
